CoreTrade Scheme

  • What is CoreTrade Scheme?
    Construction Registration of Tradesmen, or CoreTrade, is a registration scheme, administered by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), for skilled and experienced construction personnel in the various key construction trades.  CoreTrade Scheme provides a platform to upgrade workers from “Basic-Skilled” (R2) to “Higher-Skilled” (R1) personnel.
  • Who is eligible to upgrade to R1 worker under CoreTrade Scheme?
    Applicants must possess a BBC1, SEC2 or SEC (K)3 with minimum years of construction working experience in Singapore as listed in the figure below before they are qualified to attend the mandatory Familiarisation Course (FC) and pass Skills Assessments (SA) Test in order to be eligible to upgrade to R1 status under CoreTrade Scheme.

    • There are 3 levels of registered CoreTrade personnel:
      1. CoreTrade Tradesman: Applicants with minimum of 4 years working experience in Singapore construction industry.  They will need to attend the FC and pass the Practical Test in SA Test to be eligible to register as a CoreTrade Tradesman.
      2. CoreTrade Foreman: Applicants with minimum of 6 years working experience in Singapore construction industry.  They will need to attend the FC and pass BOTH the Practical Test & Theory Test in SA Test to be eligible to register as a CoreTrade Foreman.
      3. CoreTrade Supervisor: Applicants with minimum of 8 years working experience in Singapore construction industry.  They need to attend the FC and pass ONLY Theory Test in the SA Test to be eligible to register as a CoreTrade Supervisor.

Multi-skilling Scheme

  • What is Multi-Skilling Scheme?
    Multi-skilling Scheme was introduced in 2012 as an upgrade pathway for workers in the construction industry to progress from “Basic-Skilled” (R2) to “Higher-Skilled” (R1) workers.  Multi-Skill Scheme allows workers to be competent in multiple construction trades to carry out more than one type of work tasks on-site.
  • Who is eligible to upgrade to R1 worker under Multi-skilling Scheme?
    Applicants must possess (1) 2 Skills Evaluation Certificate (Knowledge), SEC (K), certifications for two different trades; and (2) have minimum 4 years of working experience in Singapore construction industry; in order to be eligible to register as R1 workers under Multi-skilling Scheme.

Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP)

Continuing Education and Training (CET)

  • What is CET?
    • CET is a half-day course covering the latest codes and regulations, good practices, and demonstration of new methods, materials, tools and equipment relevant to the specific construction trades and/or areas of responsibility of the registered personnel.
    • To continuously upgrade the construction workforce in order to support improvement in productivity, quality and safety, all R1 workers are required to attend CET under their respective registered trade category to renew their R1 status from 1st October 2013 onwards.
  • Who is eligible to register for CET?
    Any R1 worker who needs to renew his status within 2 years after upgrading to R1.
